Endeavour - Pylon

It’s 1969 and a young Endeavour Morse has been separated from his team due to the recent foundation of Thames Valley Police. When a body is found in a pylon field Morse and his old partner Thursday are thrown back together to confront a new darker side of Oxford, corruption in their ranks and a prime suspect who brings old ghosts back to haunt them. Starring Shaun Evans and Roger Allam. This feature length episode and Johnny Allan were nominated by BAFTA Scotland for Best Fiction Director.

“Young Johnny Allan, who directed the opener of this (maybe last, must-be-hoped penultimate) season of Endeavour,  did so with such style and perfect pacing – here languid, there threatening, here dappled, there red-blood pounding – as to astound.” - The Observer

“A suitably operatic overture… a rare prequel that not only manages to match the original but overtake it” **** The Guardian

“Perfectly Pitched” ***** The Radio Times

“The direction and cinematography in this episode are astoundingly good. From the elegant and fluid opening sequence to the dramatic conclusion of the story, Johnny Allan is fully in control of the vision of the story and brings true scope and majesty to the episode. Some of the shots in the episode have a Constablesque grace… awe inspiring direction”  ***** The Custard TV

“A flawless crime thriller. It has elevated the tv prequel.”- The New Statesman

“Uplifting even when wading through bleakness” **** The Times

“Caught the spirit of Colin Dexter's Morse books brilliantly. Johnny Allan's direction was lyrical and pacy by turns and the cast's terrific performances made every interaction feel refreshingly believable.” ****  INews

“Some programmes demand a widescreen telly the size of a ping-pong table, filling a wall. So big that if you open the curtains the neighbours in the next street could see what you’re watching... a marvellous collage of images crystallising life in Britain in 1969” ***** The Daily Mail
